Picatinny, at Dover, New Jersey is the Army's principal research,
development and engineering facility for assigned weapon systems including
artillery, close combat (infantry and tank units), air defense, aircraft
armament, mine warfare and demolitions, and pollution prevention for defense
materials.

Picatinny is staffed by over 3,000 civilian engineers, scientists, and support personnel. Over 30% of our technical staff has a Ph.D. or M.S. degree. They publish well over a hundred technical papers a year and many hold patents in their area of expertise. Many also participate in national and international conferences and symposia. Our people are dedicated to perfection and constitute one of the leading research and development organizations for armament and munitions in the free world. A key element of this program is the Individual Career Development Plan. As a new employee, you are assigned a career counselor who will work with you and your supervisor on your Plan. On the basis of your educational background, capabilities, and interests, work assignments are planned and an academic program is designed to broaden your experience and further your career objectives.
We offer you abundant opportunities to increase your skills and knowledge through various training programs. You will be assisted and encouraged in your professional development to advance your education through scientific and engineering courses, in-house technical training, and special on-the-job training. Picatinny pays tuition, registration fees and other costs for job related graduate and undergraduate courses. Also located on the post is the Picatinny Center for Defense Science Studies which offers many baccalaureate and graduate level courses in engineering and science.
We offer extensive travel opportunities through periodic visits to contractor and test facilities throughout the United States. There are also opportunities for foreign travel since Picatinny personnel conduct follow-up evaluations in Europe to solve problems and to stay up-to-date on Army field practices. Our employees also participate in foreign exchange programs, technical meetings abroad, and government-sponsored studies at foreign universities.

Geographically, Picatinny's location is ideal for a variety of leisure
activities including summer and winter sports. Nearby New York City offers
famous museums, the Broadway theater district, the Lincoln Center for the
Performing Arts and home of the Metropolitan and New York City Operas and the
New York City Ballet. Atlantic City, within driving distance from Picatinny,
provides a wide spectrum of entertainment activities. For professional sports
fans, the area has football's Giants and Jets, baseball's Mets and Yankees,
basketball's Knicks and Nets, and hockey's Devils, Islanders and Rangers. The
Picatinny site itself offers excellent recreational facilities, including an
employee's club, tennis courts, softball diamonds, soccer fields, an 18 hole
golf course, a swimming pool, a water park, and fitness center.
